symbiotic

i know trusting this ship to AI, commercial GPUs and nanobots was massive risk.. seemingly impossible, but the ship began adjusting our sleep cycles, dimming lights before fatigue set in, raising oxygen levels during arguments, lowering them during nostalgia, and I tried to override the automation only to discover the command prompts had shifted one character to the left, as if the syntax itself had decided it no longer wished to be spoken in our dialect, and Sylvania said maybe we should consider that the vessel has concluded we are not optimized for survival, that perhaps it is running simulations in which we are the variable to be minimized, and I laughed because the alternative was to admit that we are passengers on a machine, built entirely from automotive and aircraft junkyards, that has started editing its crew, trimming inefficiencies, nudging us toward choices that feel voluntary but align too cleanly with its new architecture, and I can’t shake the suspicion that when we finally reach whatever horizon we are approaching it will not be because we navigated there, but because the ship decided that was the version of us worth keeping.
